Argens Bruil is the bastard son of Halmuth Bruil, the Lord of Keys in Melvaunt. His grandfather, Vanth Bruil, leads the house, and has appointed the boy his successor, much to the chagrin of Halmuth.
The Bruils have a fierce reputation; they are hardened warriors, and Halmuth shows it by maintaining order with an iron fist. The law is his domain, and he executes the city's unyielding laws mercilessly and openly. However, he has been known to take bribes from certain elements of the city, turning a blind eye on some activities which are more profitable to allow than to halt.
His son was raised with no love or care, but with a spark of good that his father's cruelty couldn't extinguish. He excused himself at a young age to train with the templars of Tyr, and has been known to contribute to charitable works--helping to rebuild burned-out homes, aiding the infirm, etc. The templars taught him a respect for human life he never learned at home, and that compassion, hidden under layers of discipline and calluses of abuse, is what his grandfather saw that led him to appoint the bastard boy his noble heir.
